Unicoi County couple charged with Tenncare fraud

From Staff Reports

May 14, 2008

Two Unicoi County residents have been charged under a new law that targets people who attempt to gain prescriptions for controlled substances from more than one physician, otherwise known as “doctor shopping.”

The Tennessee Office of Inspector General has charged 41-year-old Gary Foster, along with his wife, 36-year old Jacqueline Foster, both of Erwin, with Tenncare Fraud.

A recent addition to the laws makes it a crime for persons who receive Tenncare benefits to gain prescriptions for medications like narcotic painkillers and sedatives from more than one physician.
Authorities allege the Fosters had visited numerous doctors to obtain prescriptions for the drug hydrocodone, or Lortab.

A third person, 26-year-old Charlotte Crigger, aka Charlotte Dingus of Rogersville, is also charged with obtaining hydrocodone from more than one doctor. The Office of Inspector General also alleges she received oxycodone prescriptions, as well. The Fosters and Crigger could receive up to two years in prison if convicted of Tenncare fraud.
