11-12 Baseball All-Stars advance, 9-10 lose in zone play

Both Unicoi County All-Star Softball teams have won their respective district tournaments which were held last week at Daniel Boone High School.
The 9-10 year old team defeated Daniel Boone, 11-0, Saturday night to win the title. On their way to the championship the team also defeated Jonesborough 16-0, Daniel Boone 9-0, and Elizabethton National 11-1.
The team’s pitching and defense only allowed one run during the entire tournament, an impressive feat indeed.

The catcher for the 11-12 year old softball team, Ashley Starnes, throws to first after fielding a bunt.The District 5 Championship victory qualified the 9-10 year olds for the State Tournament which will be held in Charlotte, Tennessee beginning Saturday, July 12.
The 11-12 year old All-Star team also defeated Daniel Boone, 10-0, in their championship game Saturday night.
Like the 9-10 year old team, the 11-12 year olds were also the most dominant team in the tournament. Their opponents did not score a single run during the entire tournament.
Their first tournament victory was a 24-0 blow out over Johnson County. Next, they defeated Daniel Boone 9-0. They defeated Daniel Boone again in the championship game, 10-0.
The 11-12 year old All-Stars will compete in their state tournament beginning July 12. The tournament will be held in Morristown.
The 9-10 year old baseball All-Stars fell one game short of qualifying for the District 5 Tournament last week.
Playing in District 5 Zone 2 action, the boys needed to win three games to qualify for the District 5 Tournament.
In their first game which was held on Saturday, June 28, they defeated Colonial Heights 11-0.
The following Monday, June 30, they defeated Blountville in a close 7-6 contest.
This win put the team one win away from the District 5 Tournament.
Standing in their way was Johnson City American Red. Unfortunately, the boys were unable to get past American and lost 10-5. The loss moved the team into the losers’ bracket, but with a win in their next game they could still qualify for the district.
On Friday, July 4, the 9-10 year old faced off against Blountville. In a close game, Unicoi fell short, 9-7. The loss ended the 9-10 year old team’s season.
This weekend, the 11-12 year old baseball All-Star team took their first steps toward the District 5 Tournament.
The 11-12 year olds played the first games of District 5 Zone 1 action at Blountville Little League. On Saturday, they easily defeated Johnson City American, 11-0. On Sunday they overpowered Johnson County in a 23-0 victory.
Their next game will be tonight (July 8) at 6:00 p.m. This game will also be held at Blountville Little League. A win tonight will qualify the team for the District 5 Tournament.
The 10-11 year old baseball All-Stars will play their first game tonight at 8:30 p.m. Their opponent will be Daniel Boone and they will play at Johnson City National.
