UCHS Blue Devil Men and Lady Devils Golf teams participated in a Jamboree Thursday, August 7 at Buffalo Valley. The Blue Devil Boys competed against Johnson County, University High, Elizabethton, Sullivan North, Happy Valley and Hampton.

Elizabethton won the match with a low score of 326. UCHS tied for fourth place with a team score of 401.

Sophomore Austin Shelton shot a low round of 88, followed by Senior Jay Shelton with a 96. Sophomore Christian Watson scored a 106, and Senior Stephen Wilcox with a 111. The other two players for the Devils, Sophomore Forest Bullen and Senior Jay Richardson had a score of 114 and 116, respectively.

Assistant Coach Don Tucker said he was “tickled” with what he saw. “We lost our entire starting team from last year. We’re taking a serious look at 13 players this year. We really did better than I expected this early with no more practice than we have had.”

The UCHS Blue Devils begin regular season play Thursday, August 14 at 3:30 p.m. at Buffalo Valley against Johnson County, University High and Elizabethton.

The UCHS Lady Devils consist of four team members; two juniors, Leah Pitcock and Hillary Howell, and two sophomores, Lexi Wright, and Laura Willis. “The sky is the limit this year for Pitcock and Howell, who were the two top players from last year’s team,” said Assistant Coach Don Tucker. “They have really been working hard this year and we expect big things out of them. We are a big favorite in the district this year and with a little luck and good individual play, we have a shot a going to the state,” he commented.

In Thursday’s Jamboree at Buffalo Valley, the Lady Devils won with a low score of 91. Pitcock had a round of 45 and Howell a 46. Lexi Wright had a round of 55 and Laura Willis shot a 61.

UCHS defeated Elizabethton, Happy Valley and Johnson County. Regular season play begins Thursday, August 14 at Buffalo Valley against Johnson county, University High and Elizabethton. Starting time is set for 3:30 p.m.
